Art Competition
As a part of the activation for Tamil Heritage celebration we are organising an Art competitions for school students. The theme for the art competition is Tamil heritage or Thai Pongal. Students are encouraged to participate in the Live Art Competition and art work submission.
This competition is open for students from Schools in GTA. Selected young artists will have an opportunity to attend an exclusive artwork shop by Artist Maruthu (date and venue will be communicated at a later date). Winners will be recognized with a cash/gift card award of $ 100.00 on the second day of the Thai Pongal Celebrations by the Mayor Frank Scarpitti and Councillor Logan Kanapathi of City of Markham.
We have enclosed an electronic copy the flyer with details of the art competition for display in your school to encourage student participation. The deadline for submission of art work is January 14, 2017, 3PM at Markham Civic Centre.
Competition Details
Eligibility:
All GTA School Students from Grade 3 – Grade 12 can participate in the Live Art competition or submit their art work. We have coloring competition for Kindergarten-Grade 2 students taking place on Jan 14th 2PM at Markham Civic Centre.
Objectives:
Competition Theme:
The theme for this year’s competition is Tamil Heritage or Thai Pongal, featuring the Tamil festival for the season.
Venue for Live Art Competition and Coloring Competition:
The competition will take place on January 14, 2017 between 2 PM- 4 PM at the Markham Civic Centre, 101 Town Centre Boulevard, Markham, ON L3R 9W3
Guideline for Artwork Submission:
The art work submitted by the students must be produced exclusively for the Markham Thai Pongal Art Competition. The art should be done only by the applicant and not by his/ her parents or relatives.
Size of artwork
Your entry should not be smaller than Letter size (8.5 X 11 inches) or larger than A2 size (23.39 x 16.54 inches) . Please submit your artwork in flat format only, it should not be rolled, folded or framed.
Use of Materials
You may use any type of paper, white, coloured, rough or smooth. The work that you submit may be drawn or painted in pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, crayon, pastel, watercolour, gouache, acrylics, oils or poster colour.

Participants are requested to submit their art works to Kaushalya Rajah, Executive Assistant to Councillor Logan Kanapathi at the following address:

Originality
Your work should be original and unaided. Please do not copy another person’s work. Any source imagery must be indicated at time of entry. Failure to properly reference any source imagery may result in disqualification.
Winner Notification:
Winners will be notified through email or home phone number provided.
Recognition:
Winners will be recognized at Flato Markham Theatre on Sunday afternoon, January 15, 2017 at 2 PM and will receive a cash award of $ 100.00 and a certificate from Mayor Frank Scarpitti and Councillor Logan Kanapathi, City of Markham. The best Art work chosen by Artist Maruthu will be posted in the Markham Thai Pongal website.
Return of artwork:
All the art works will be returned and it can be picked up at the Markham Civic Centre on January 15, 2017 between 11 AM to 6 PM provided a written request is emailed to markham.thaipongal@gmail.com.
